Texas A&M's No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class could be affected by the Aggies' performance during the 2026 season, currently sitting at 2-1 and 0-1 in SEC play, set to take on No. 10 LSU in Baton Rouge on Saturday night. When this article is published, however, Texas A&M will either earn its third win or suffer its second consecutive loss after falling to Kentucky at home last week.

Last week, coach Mike Elko and his staff hosted ten of the program's 26 commits in the 2027 cycle, including several of the six five-star commitments, led by standout safety Kamarui Dorsey. One of the program's blue-chip defensive commits, four-star Edge Frederick Ards, has yet to shut down his recruitment and is reportedly visiting the Florida Gators this weekend.

Ards has been committed to Texas A&M since June 2, choosing the Aggies over Alabama, South Carolina, and the Florida Gators, as the Orlando (FL) native isn't wasting any opportunity to weigh his long list of options, despite his strong relationship with Mike Elko.

It's hard to know if A&M's 31-21 loss to Kentucky has affected his decision, but it is certainly something to monitor as the season rolls on. If Texas A&M finishes 8-4 or worse this season, the 2027 commits who haven't shut down their recruitment will be the players to watch, while the Florida Gators, who take on Ole Miss this weekend, are certainly a program on the rise under new head coach Jon Sumrall.
