Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class could be on the cusp of landing a handful of five-star prospects after this weekend’s busy weekend, as head coach Mike Elko is focused on strengthening relationships with the likes of five-star linebacker Cooper Witten, five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown, and five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, ranked as Rivals’ No. 1 cornerback prospect, who also visited this weekend.
Dobson has been connected to the Aggies for quite some time, taking an unofficial visit to College Station last summer, followed by watching Texas A&M defeat Notre Dame 41-40 in South Bend as a visitor for the Fighting Irish, leaving another positive impression regarding the Aggies’ future under Mike Elko.
“I was out there two weeks ago, and, just like everything, coach (Mike) Elko is a DB (defensive back) coach, so that means alot to me right there, and just seeing the stadium (Kyle Field) and just seeing the way they go about things.”
Back in College Station this weekend, Dobson has nothing but positive takeaways when speaking with Rivals insider Steve Wiltfong, as several blue-blood programs, including Texas, LSU, Auburn, Notre Dame, South Carolina, and Tennessee, are looking to sign the standout defensive back, and will more than likely host Dobson sometime this month.
“It was great,” Dobson stated to Rivals. “I got a chance to build an even better relationship with the staff. After a couple of changes, Coach Elko continues to tell me how they are going to keep stacking great classes, and they are going to win.”
Texas A&M’s historic 2025 season may not have finished on a high note, but it was impressive nonetheless. Finishing with 11 wins for the first time since 1993, paired with the program’s first CFP appearance, every prospect, including Dobson, is well aware of what Elko and his staff are building, which starts with the best facilities in the country.
“The facilities are unmatched, and it’s amazing seeing the campus as well,” Dobson stated. “Can’t wait to get back, definitely soon.”
Texas A&M has already landed a commitment from blue-chip 2027 four-star cornerback Raylaun Henry.
