Texas A&M's 2026 season opener vs. Missouri State is exactly a week away, as the 2026 college football season officially kicked off on Friday, with the always entertaining Week 0 slate tailor-made for die-hard CFB fans. After 16 preseason practices, third-year coach Mike Elko and his talented 2026 roster are ready to take the field in pursuit of a second straight trip to the College Football Playoff.

On the recruiting trail, the 2028 cycle has become the focus this fall, set to host a growing list of blue-chip prospects, including five-star DL Kellan Hall and five-star safety Casey Barner, who will make their way to College Station on Saturday, Oct. 3, when the Aggies host Arkansas.

Elko and his staff are close to locking down the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, headlined by a nation-high six five-star commitments, including linebacker Kaden Henderson, who committed to the Aggies over Notre Dame this summer. Currently the highest-rated LB commit in Texas A&M history, Henderson enters his senior season with a clear focus on finishing his prep career on a high note.

On Friday evening, GigEm247 insider Cade Draughon spoke to Henderson about his commitment decision, as the blue-chip defender stated that he plans to attend nearly every one of Texas A&M's seven home games this season, looking to learn Mike Elko and new defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill's defensive scheme, knowing that his early enrollment plans in January are the first steps towards his bright career with the program.
