2027 5-star OL and Texas A&M commit on 'flip watch'

Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is closer than ever to finishing as the top-ranked cycle, even after missing out on five-star running back Landen Williams-Callis, who committed to the Texas Longhorns on Saturday night. Coach Mike Elko and his staff still have a shot to flip his commitment during the 2026 season, paired with Texas Tech commit and four-star running back SaRod Baker.
Leading the Aggies' 2027 cycle, five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews has all but shut down his recruitment after choosing Texas A&M over the Miami Hurricanes back on May 15, but as I stated above, "flip season" is upon us, and several analysts, including On3's Steve Wiltfong, believe that the Hurricanes have a legitimate shot at flipping Matthews' commitment in the coming months.
However, Matthews has stated on multiple occasions that he remains "all in" with the Aggies and is fully bought into Mike Elko's vision for the program after Texas A&M made the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history last season, but words are simply words, and until pen hits paper, nothing is solidified, giving Miami a clear shot until then.
According to Wiltfong, Mark Matthews took a smaller NIL deal with the Aggies compared to his offer from Miami; his relationship with the coaching staff, especially offensive line coach Adam Cushing, is stronger than oak, which should result in the blue-chip OL potentially shutting down his recruitment after visiting Texas A&M again this fall.
"But the Aggies quietly built a great relationship with Matthews and his family. Got him to campus several times. Have built a program he believes he can thrive in and their offensive line coach Adam Cushing has a great reputation as well."
Under Adam Cushing, four starting offensive linemen from the 2025 lineup were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including guard Chase Bisontis, 34th overall, to the Arizona Cardinals, but Miami OL coach and ace recruiter Alex Mirabal has an equally impressive track record, which can't be ignored heading into the final stretch of Matthews' commitment.
"With all that being written, Miami is never going to stop recruiting Matthews. They’ve kept up correspondence including sending an official offer letter. They hope the season speaks for itself regarding their play and will take another swing or two before it’s time to put pen to paper.
We also expect to see Matthews back in College Station this season and to date hasn’t made any comments or had any actions yet that make you feel like he’s wavering on his decision."
