2027 5-star RB, Texas A&M target, announces commitment date

Texas A&M’s No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class is nearly complete after the Aggies landed four-star linebacker Makahi Allen, who chose A&M over Texas and South Carolina, joining five-star Kaden Henderson and rising three-star Aston Whiteside, likely completing new LB coach Travis Williams’ future linebacker room.

Among the program’s 26 commits, 10 offensive commits, led by the cycle’s No. 1-ranked prospect, five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, provide Aggie fans a glimpse into the future at quarterback, wide receiver, and in the trenches past the 2026 season. However, third-year coach Mike Elko has yet to land a running back after securing five-star KJ Edwards and four-star Carsyn Baker in the 2026 class.

Two names in the 2027 class have been the focus, starting with five-star running back Landon Williams-Callis, who took his official visit with the Aggies late last month, followed by his OV with the Texas Longhorns, which was reportedly highly successful, resulting in Texas A&M’s arch-rival receiving a prediction to land the blue-chip back.

On Wednesday night, it was revealed that Williams-Callis will announce his commitment on Saturday, August 1. While Texas is the frontrunner, Houston, Missouri, SMU, and Texas A&M also made the final cut, which is a great sign even if he ends up committing to Texas.

It’s now publicly known that Williams-Callis is looking for a starting role as soon as he steps on campus, and while Texas A&M’s future running back room will include Jamarion Morrow, KJ Edwards, Carsyn Baker, and, possibly, Rueben Owens, depending on how well he plays this fall, landing the five-star back isn’t exactly critical.

Still, Elko and running backs coach Trooper Taylor will continue to pursue Williams-Callis, combined with Texas Tech commit and four-star running back SaRod Baker.
