2027 five-star CB commits to South Carolina over Texas A&M, Michigan

A five-star cornerback from the 2027 class slipped away from Texas A&M, announcing his commitment to South Carolina over the Aggies and Michigan.

Per On3 Sports recruiting reporter Hayes Fawcett, Joshua Dobson chose the Gamecocks on Wednesday evening. Dobson is ranked as the No. 6 recruit in the 2027 Rivals300. He had offers from the likes of South Carolina, Texas A&M, Auburn, Clemson and Michigan, but ultimately decided to commit to Shane Beamer and company.

At 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Dobson is one of the most refined corner prospects in the nation with elite speed and physical build to compete in the Southeastern Conference. The track and football star’s commitment marks South Carolina’s first five-star addition from the 2027 class.

While missing out on Dobson is disappointing, Texas A&M remains well at the front of the pack in the current team recruiting rankings for next year’s group. The Aggies have landed 25 total commitments, including six five-stars and 10 four-stars. That list features cornerback Raylaun Henry, who is rated as the No. 30 overall prospect in the 2027 class.

Mike Elko’s dominance on the recruiting trail has been exhilarating for Aggie fans to watch this offseason, as he continues to build upon a monster class featuring some of the top recruits in the country. According to Rivals, Texas A&M boasts a 94.003 composite score. The next highest is Notre Dame at 92.732 and Miami at 92.387.
