As Longhorns football continues preparing for the 2026 campaign, they are also busy on the recruiting front. This weekend, they are welcoming five-star recruit Jalen Brewster to campus. The best defensive lineman has already committed to Texas Tech, but he has not closed the door on other schools.
Currently, Brewster is ranked as the top defensive lineman in the 2027 class by 247Sports. They also rank the Cedar High star as the sixth-best player in the nation and the second-best player from Texas. That ranking is partly why he has received offers from some of the top programs in the nation, such as Miami, LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Florida.

Over the last few months, Brewster has been busy visiting schools nationwide. He has made trips to LSU and Indiana. The Longhorns target has also taken a few unofficial visits to Florida. Shortly after he visits Texas, Brewster is expected to return to Texas Tech on June 19th.
If the Longhorns can flip Brewster, their 2026 class would get a massive boost. At the moment, it includes one five-star recruit in Jermaine Bishop. He will be joined by multiple four-star prospects such as Dia Bell, Tyler Atkinson, Kosi Okpala, Richard Wesley, Derek Cooper, and Samara Matthews. That group already has high expectations, even though their college careers haven't started yet.

Although this weekend marks Brewster's first official visit, he is no stranger to the Longhorns. He made two trips to Austin last year before committing to Texas Tech. Now, head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff will have another chance to make their best pitch. They hope it ends with a commitment from the game-changing lineman.
While it will not be easy to flip Brewster, it is a good sign for Texas that he is willing to visit campus.
