After losing the program’s only 2027 commitment earlier this month, the Texas Longhorns jumpstarted the upcoming cycle with a massive Saturday pledge from New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin wide receiver Easton Royal.
Texas officially entered Royal’s recruitment back in May by extending an offer to the consensus five-star prospect and began trending earlier this month when the Louisiana product told Rivals that he could see himself playing on the Forty Acres.
Royal holds 30 total offers, including Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and others.
Considered one of the top players in the country, Royal is ranked as the No. 12 player nationally and the No. 3 wide receiver, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. On3 slots the 5’11, 185-pounder as the top receiver in the 2027 class.
As a sophomore, Royal ran a 10.38 100-meter, so he fits the preferred speed profile of Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, in addition to flashing impressive ball skills for his size.
Analysis (by Daniel Seahorn):
You won’t find playmakers much more dynamic than Royal in the 2027 class. When you watch him on tape, it is very clear he is by far the best player on the field. He ran a verified 10.38 100M dash as a sophomore and that blazing speed shows up consistently when you watch him. Royal lines up both on the outside and in the slot for Brother Martin and he easily erases cushions and angles when running routes and with the ball in the open field. The second play of his junior cutups looks like something out of a backyard football game and even though it probably didn’t count due to penalties it was both hilarious and impressive that he ended up in the end zone. Makes some incredibly impressive one-handed catches on film that will make your jaw drop. He is incredibly dangerous in the screen game and on double moves down the field. His speed and acceleration is phenomenal and makes him a deep threat weapon for any offense he is dropped into. Royal accumulated just under 1,800 all purpose yards as a junior and had 25 total touchdowns on the year. He is one of the best wide receiver prospects in the country regardless of classification and has a change to be a playmaker at the next level.
