The Class of 2027 recruits continue to roll in for the UCLA Bruins. On Friday, UCLA landed a commitment from three-star linebacker Cain Brackney, giving new Bruins defensive coordinator Colin Hitschler a new weapon to work with beginning in 2027.
Ever since Bob Chesney was hired by UCLA, he’s been recruiting. The Bruins now have the No. 18 2027 recruiting class according to 247 Sports, with Brackney being the fifth three-star recruit and ninth overall commitment.
Unlike Khalil Terry, the four-star safety that committed to UCLA on Tuesday, Brackney wasn’t a Southern California kid that decided to stay local for his college ball. Brackney is from Bixby, Oklahoma. 4x Pro Bowl and Super Bowl winning cornerback Chris Harris Jr. is the most notable football product from Bixby.
This past season, Brackney made 102 tackles as a junior, who registered an interception and a fumble recovery. Plenty of schools were interested in Brackney’s services, with Michigan, Iowa State and Arkansas all offering Brackney.
Brackney currently stands at 6’1” and 220 lbs but he’ll have his senior year of high school to develop before heading west and joining the Bruins. 247 Sports currently has Brackney as their No. 87 linebacker in the class and as the No. 16 player in the 2027 class from Oklahoma.
UCLA has proven capable of developing linebackers in recent years. The Bruins saw Carson Schwesinger go from a walk-on to winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year after spending his entire college career in Westwood.
We’ll see how much of a turnaround Chesney can lead in 2026, but the Bruins will be having a very exciting group of freshmen heading for the 2027 season.
