It seems like Luke Fickell is bringing in a new prep commitment every day, and there’s likely still more to come for the Wisconsin Badgers much-praised 2027 class, which currently sits at No. 13 nationally in the 247 Sports rankings. But as we head toward mid-June, this is a great time to take stock of how this class looks and drop a few “Yearbook Superlatives.”

Another commitment could hit at any time, so let’s get right to it.

Future President: TE Korz Loken

Yes, he’s a talented young football tight end who appears to have a world of future upside for the Badgers as a 4-star recruit out of Iola-Scandinavia, Wisconsin.

But, for now, he’s been instrumental in helping to build the 2027 group, campaigning and selling the vision with regularity. He’s also an affable kid who has the cut of a locker room leader for the Badgers down the road.

Most Likely to Succeed: OT Cole Reiter and DB Mekhi Williams

Reiter carries himself like a future anchor of the Badgers’ offensive line and already has the size to play in college. One more year in the prep ranks should only get him more ready for his moment.

Williams is talented, long, and instinctual. With more muscle and seasoning, he should be a very strong bet to play as a true freshman for Wisconsin.

Most Likely to Dagger Ohio State: QB Jack Sorgi, DL Yahzeen Zion, EDGE Isaac Miller, WR Steele Harris, and RB Kingston Allen

This group is not only uber-talented, but has potential skill sets/upsides that could find them one day making a game-changing play in a win over an elite team like the Buckeyes, whether via a pass (Sorgi), sack (Miller, Zion), deep touchdown (Harris), or long run (Allen). I’m super excited to see these guys playing for the Badgers.

Talented Twins Award: OL Hunter Mallinger, OL Reece Mallinger

It’s easy to imagine twins Hunter and Reece Mallinger, beefy and talented out of Sussex Hamilton, one day occupying 40% of Wisconsin’s starting OL slots. The first twin Badgers that I can recall.

Most Underrated: LB Nathan Jones, S Dustin Roach, CB Royalton Allen, EDGE Darin Graham, and LB Keaton Wollan

To be clear, the real ones all know this skilled pentagon are already really good, high upside football players very much in the traditional Badger mode of being tough competitors with high motors.

But the ranking services are sleeping, at least a bit, on every one of them. It wouldn’t shock me if three or more of them end up true impact players down the road.

Most to Prove/Scary Upside: WR Jai Jones

I almost feel like I’m picking on the smooth and talented Jones by saying he has a lot to prove, but that goes with the territory of being a rare four-star Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver recruit. There will be buzz around him and high expectations from the second he arrives in Madison.

But the second part of this category, scary upside, will hopefully serve him well in the Cardinal and White. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him be an impact player by 2028.

Most Likely to Wear His Wisconsin Uniform to Bed: OL Ethan McIntosh

A Badger since the womb, the Middleton product and son of former Wisconsin star/AD Chris McIntosh has been attending games at Camp Randall since he was a baby. It’s hard to imagine that a more bleed Badger red guy exists in this class.

The Longshot Who Will Make It Someday: OL Jack Tabbert

The latest in the long line of under-recruited Badger offensive linemen who won an offer with a good camp, Tabbert fits the profile of the hard-working, lunch pail kid who you can’t keep off the field.

No, he doesn’t have the recruiting pedigree of his cohorts, but Badger offensive line guru Eric Mateos saw something he really liked and took a chance on Tabbert. Don’t bet against him.

Most Likely to Have an Incredible Offer List Relative to His Recruiting Ranking: S Trey Roberson

They make them a little bit different in Texas, and a team could do a lot worse than a skilled, physical Safety from the Lone Star State with a three-star ranking but over 30 (!) offers from a hefty gaggle of good to elite programs including Miami (FL), Oklahoma, Texas Tech, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, UCF, Duke, Arizona State, Arizona, TCU, Duke, Iowa State, and others. These schools know something.

Most Ready-Made NFL Star Name: S D.J. Davis

Yes, he’s a really fast football player who appears to possess significant upside, but one thing is for sure: He has a superstar football name.

“With the 32nd pick of the second round of the 2030 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select D.J. Davis.” Let’s make this so.

Most Likely/Least Likely to Have His Name Mispronounced by an AnnouncerDL Will Zaccagnino and DL David Hill

First of all, both Zaccagnino and Hill are talented players with significant upside, so they deserve better than this fun, frivolous category, but here we are. It will be fun to hear P.A. folks try to get the former’s name correct, while they’ll have no such issues with the latter. You have been warned, Matt Mahnke.
