As Longhorns football looks to add to its 2028 roster, it got good news on the recruiting front this week. On Wednesday, offensive lineman Maxx Jones announced he would take an unofficial visit to Austin on April 4th. That will give Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff a chance to make Jones an offer he can't refuse.
While Texas has made a good impression, it is not the only program in the mix. Over the next few months, Jones has visits locked in with LSU, SMU, Texas A&M, Florida, Miami, and Michigan. He is also reportedly trying to set up visits with Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, and Missouri. The heavy interest comes as no surprise, given how he is viewed by scouts.

Currently, the Longhorns' target is ranked as the eighth-best offensive tackle in his class by 247Sports. They also rank Jones as the 17th-best player from Florida and the 44th-best player in the nation. That is partly why the Longhorns have made him a target during the recruiting process.
Although Sarkisian and his staff are still searching for their first commit in the 2028 class, they have been busy making connections. They have made offers to some of the best players available, including Asher Ghioto, Dawson Jacobs, Tahj Gray, Nate Dollard, and Jame Foster III. That list should continue to grow.

When Jones is on campus, Texas's focus will be to show him what his future as a Longhorn may hold. The Longhorns have had success at developing offensive tackles, which could help them during their pitch.
With no commitment date set, Texas has plenty of time to set itself apart.
