2028 Texas QB target Neimann Lawrence sets commitment date

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are on track to land an early commitment at the quarterback in the 2028 recruiting class when Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage standout Neimann Lawrence announces his decision on June 25.

Texas is one of five finalists for the 6’0.5, 202-pounder, along with Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M.

The replacement for 2026 signee Dia Bell at American Heritage, Lawrence became a key target for the Longhorns after he earned an offer at a summer camp last June after taking a handful of unofficial visits that spring as Texas, Miami, Penn State, and Ohio State all hosted Lawrence, who also picked up offers from Alabama and Michigan.

Lawrence also holds offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, LSU, Nebraska, Oregon, SMU, South Carolina, Syracuse, TCU, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia, among others.

In typical Sarkisian fashion, Lawrence is one of three quarterbacks offered by the Horns in the 2028 recruiting class, along with No. 1 quarterback Jayden Wade, an IMG Academy product committed to Georgia since mid-November, and Ty Simpson’s younger brother Graham, who picked up his Texas offer in February.

So Lawrence has been the top target for Texas since Wade’s decision, and last weekend’s visit to Austin for another summer camp appeared to vault the Longhorns into the lead for the athletic, strong-armed passer with multiple predictions coming in for the burnt orange and white since that visit and the announcement of his commitment date.

If Texas can secure Lawrence’s pledge later this month, he would become the first 2028 commitment for the Horns and the leader for the class one cycle after Sarkisian and quarterbacks coaches AJ Milwee and Mike Diamonte missed on several top targets before landing consensus three-star prospect Ty Knutson in February.

A consensus four-star prospect, Lawrence is ranked as the No. 53 prospect nationally and the No. 5 quarterback, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
