3 bold predictions for Alabama's CFP first round matchup vs. Oklahoma

The Alabama Crimson Tide will face the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday night in the first round of the College Football Playoff (CFP).

The Tide struggled on both sides of the football against the Sooners earlier in the season. Ty Simpson threw for 326 yards and a touchdown in the loss, but ultimately Alabama was unable to take control of the matchup at any point throughout the contest. The Tide will look for revenge on Friday night in Norman, as both high powered programs will look to keep their season alive and continue on the journey towards a national championship.

Here are three bold takes for the Tide’s matchup with the Sooners in Norman.

Ty Simpson throws for 300+ yards, two touchdowns

Simpson was elite for the majority of the 2025 season. Alabama as a whole struggled against the Sooners in Tuscaloosa, but Simpson finds himself in prime position for a big time performance as the star quarterback could quickly take control of the matchup. The former five-star recruit has struggled in recent weeks, but Simpson now has an excellent chance to change the narrative surrounding the Alabama offense as a whole and could thrive against the Sooners in Norman.

Jam Miller explodes for 150+ yards and a touchdown

Alabama’s run game has been extremely underwhelming for the majority of the year. That can quickly change on Friday, however, as star running back Jam Miller will be returning from injury and will look to thrive against an elite Oklahoma defensive unit. Miller was absent during the SEC Championship loss to Georgia, but the dynamic playmaker will more than likely emerge as a key weapon for offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and the Alabama offense as a whole.

Conor Talty hits two huge field goals late in second half

Conor Talty has had an up and down year during his first season as the Crimson Tide’s starting kicker. The redshirt sophomore missed his lone field goal try against the Sooners earlier in the year, but Talty could quickly play a crucial role on Friday night as both teams could struggle on the offensive side of the ball. Talty ended the 2025 season with a 65% field goal success rate, but the rising star could have an excellent opportunity to permanently cement himself in Crimson Tide history on Friday night.

The Tide will face the Sooners in Norman at 7:00 p.m. CT on Friday night, as Alabama will look to keep their season alive and advance to a matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl.
