BYU football continues the momentum they built with recent recruiting wins in the Class of 2027. After getting recent commitments from four-star recruits Uhila Wolfgramm and Blake Wong, along with three-star offensive tackle Kyle Nabrotzky, the Cougars scored on the recruiting trail once again.
Peyton Higginson is a three-star athlete from Salem Hills, UT. On Monday, he announced his commitment to BYU, stating “Cougar Nation…I’m HOME!” on X. He ranked as the 15th-best recruit in the state of Utah for this class.
At 6-foot-3, 181 pounds be brings excellent length and size. Higginson is a versatile two-way player with a long, athletic frame ideal for modern positions like boundary receiver or safety. Scouts praise his quick burst off the line as a receiver. So far in his high school varsity career, he has amassed 1,235 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns.
As a safety, he has a nose for the football, with 107 tackles and five interceptions to his name. He earned 4A First Team All-State honors last season.
Before committing, he narrowed to BYU, Kyle Whittingham’s program at Michigan, and Utah State.
Though he is a two-way player, it should be noted that BYU’s defensive staff, including new defensive coordinator Kelly Poppinga, recruited him early on. Given his size and speed, he’s a classic “tweener” with room to develop into several different positions.
Despite a strong pursuit from the Big 10’s Michigan, with former BYU defensive coordinator Jay Hill making a push from Ann Arbor, it seemed Higginson was drawn to BYU for more than just simply the football team.
The Cougars now have 13 hard commits from the class of 2027. They still have work to do, as they are ranked 66th in 2027 recruiting rankings, which is 12th out of 16 in the Big 12. Certainly, the last few weeks have built some serious momentum.
