The Oklahoma Sooners landed a signature from three-star safety Markel Ford on Wednesday’s early signing day, as they continue to add to their 2026 recruiting class

Ford was ranked as a three-star prospect by 247Sports Composite, and he is from Mesquite Horn High School in Mesquite, Texas. He stands at 6 feet tall, weighs 185 pounds, and was ranked as the 72nd-best safety in the ’26 class

Ford committed to safeties coach Brandon Hall on November 26th, over two years after initially receiving an offer from OU. Ford flipped to the Sooners from SMU, where he had been committed since April. He also has a track background.

Hall’s safety room has been very good in recent years, with Billy Bowman Jr., Robert Spears-Jennings and Peyton Bowen among his best products. Ford is someone the Sooners have been eyeing for a while, and on signing day, they got him in the boat along with the rest of their 2026 class.
