The Oklahoma Sooners landed a signature from four-star cornerback Derrick Johnson on Wednesday’s early signing day, as they continue to add to their 2026 recruiting class.
Johnson was ranked as a four-star prospect by 247Sports Composite, and he is from Murrieta Valley High School in Murrieta, California. He stands at 6-foot-2, weighs 170 pounds, and was ranked as the 35th-best cornerback in the ’26 class
Johnson committed to cornerbacks coach Valai on June 10th, a few months after receiving an offer from OU in January. He also held offers from TCU, Washington, and UCLA, among others.
Valai’s cornerback room was young in 2025, but they did an admirable job, despite relying on true freshman and Courtland Guillory and true sophomore Eli Bowen as the starting tandem for the crucial stretch run of the season. If you can play, Valai will get you on the field. As a junior in 2024, Johnson logged 47 tackles, seven TFLS, two sacks, one INT returned for a 91-yard TD, three passes defended, and one forced fumble.
