The rollercoaster-of-a-24-hours revolving around the recruitment of Choctaw County (MS) four-star defensive lineman Ben’Jarvius Shumaker saw another chapter be added Tuesday evening, June 23.

Shortly after 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Shumaker announced that he had flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to Colorado. That decision came as a shock to many as the previous night he posted to his Instagram story that he had shut his recruitment down.

Nine hours later, Shumaker took to his socials again to announce that he had flipped his commitment back to Ole Miss.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God, my family, and every coach and program that has invested time, energy, and belief in me throughout this recruiting process,” Shumaker said in a post to both his Instagram and X account. “The relationships I have built and the opportunities I have been given are something I will never take for granted. After careful thought, prayer, and conversations with my family, I have decided to remain committed to Ole Miss and officially shut down my recruitment.

“…I apologize for any confusion that may have come over the last several hours. This process has reaffirmed for me that Ole Miss is where I am meant to be. I believe in the vision for the program, the relationships my family and I have built in Oxford, and the opportunity to develop both on and off the field. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I am excited for the future, ready to get to work, and proud to call the state of Mississippi and Ole Miss home.”

Shumaker had previously been committed to Ole Miss since March 6 before the flip to Colorado.

Now back with Ole Miss, he rejoins a class that 247Sports ranks just inside the top 30 nationally. He also becomes the second in-state four-star defensive line commit of the day for Pete Golding.

Louisville (MS) standout Mitchell Turner announced his commitment to the program earlier in the day, choosing the Rebels over the likes of Alabama, LSU and Texas.

As for Shumaker, 247Sports ranks the 6-foot-3, 270-pounder as the No. 89 overall prospect in the 2027 class, the No. 9 defensive lineman and the No. 3 player out of Mississippi. He comes in at No. 76 in the updated USA TODAY Sports High School football composite rankings.

He is coming off of a junior season where he totaled 113 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries.
