Four-star safety recruit Davion Jones has committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks, per Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. Jones chose the Gamecocks over the LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Auburn Tigers and the Indiana Hoosiers.
Standing at 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, Jones is an agile safety who was a major target for the Bulldogs prior to his commitment. The talented recruit announced his decision live on the CBS Sports college football YouTube channel, and Jones decided that South Carolina was the better fit over Georgia. Jones took official visits to Indiana (May 15), Georgia (May 29), Auburn (June 5), LSU (June 12), and South Carolina (June 19), and the Gamecocks have now landed the talented safety just over two weeks after his visit with the program.
Jones has all the makings to emerge as a star at South Carolina. He is ranked as the No. 9 safety and the No. 144 overall player from the class of 2027, per the 247Sports Composite rankings. Jones has been elite during his time at Hough High School (Cornelius, North Carolina) and he is the No. 6 recruit in North Carolina as a result.
Georgia has targeted some of the top recruits in the nation despite missing out on Jones. Four-star OT Kennedee Jackson recently shut down his recruitment after committing to Georgia, while former Penn State commit Jamir Dean has flipped from the Nittany Lions to the Bulldogs.
