One of Florida football's recruiting visitors last weekend during homecoming weekend was one of the top defensive linemen in the 2028 cycle: five-star prospect Prince Che.

The 6-foot-3-inch, 305-pound recruit out of Thomas County Central High in Thomasville, Georgia, was in the Swamp for the Gators' Week 6 matchup with South Carolina — a game that saw the Orange and Blue humiliated by the Gamecocks in a 38-19 defeat. Nonetheless, it did little to sour the highly-prized defender on Florida.

"The loss doesn't change my feelings for UF," Che told Swamp247. "It's still a great school."

Head coach Jon Sumrall and his staff have been laser-focused on the prep prospect and spared no detail on his visit, introducing the Peach State product to key members of the university in addition to the many amenities provided for his game-day visit.

"It was amazing; it showed that they really cared about me," Che said.

Che also met with Sumrall and defensive line coach Gerald Chatman, both of whom spent quality time with the high school standout while he was on campus.

“I like the relationships I’m building with the coaches and what Florida has to offer,” Che told Rivals. “They’re definitely in the mix for me.”

Additionally, he spoke with a pair of current defensive line commits — four-star Cahron Wheeler and three-star De'Voun Kendrick — noting that they told him "it's a great environment to be in."

After the visit, he said that Florida is one of his top schools, despite witnessing the program's second loss of the 2026 campaign.

“The visit helped me learn more about the program, and they’re still in the mix. I’m just taking my time and seeing how everything plays out with all the schools recruiting me.”

So far, Che has made two unofficial trips to Florida, Texas A&M and Clemson, while visiting Georgia and Oklahoma once apiece. Next weekend, he will swing through South Florida to catch Miami's rivalry game against FSU.

Prince Che's recruiting summary

Che is ranked No. 12 overall and No. 2 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the Rivals industry ranking has him at Nos. 10 and 2, respectively. Of the 38 schools that have offered scholarships, Texas A&M leads the race for the five-star recruit with a 94.4% chance of signing him according to On3's recruiting prediction machine, while Florida follows behind with a 1.3% chance, and Clemson with a 1.1% chance.

According to 247Sports analyst TJ Randall, Che is a "dancing bear between the guards, who is very young for his grade and owns a unique soccer background." He also "exemplifies the equation for force with how rapidly he gains ground in a phone booth at 300 pounds" and "takes command of the neutral zone with strong hands, torque power, and a wide base to promptly discard blocks" while possessing "active, coordinated handwork (that) can overwhelm and disorient blockers."

Randall also notes that Che is "recognized as one of the top performers at the Under Armour Atlanta regional camp following his display of the aforementioned traits and skills, along with a relentless motor" and that "proper growth maintenance will be key, but he projects as a multi-year starter for a College Football Playoff contender."
