The Oregon Ducks have been clicking on all cylinders on the recruiting trail lately, and now the Ducks are headed down the stretch for their biggest recruiting battle yet. Five-star quarterback Will Mencl announced he will be making his commitment on Wednesday, live on the Rivals YouTube channel.

Mencl, the No. 13 overall recruit in the latest Rivals300 rankings and the top-ranked passer in the country, will make his decision at 4:30 p.m. PT. The Chandler, Arizona, passer will pick between Oregon, Auburn and Penn State.

The Ducks were fortunate enough to get the last word on Mencl, as he visited Eugene last week. The Ducks were in on Mencl very early in the cycle, but recent visits to Auburn and Penn State have made this a closer battle. The Tigers are a bigger threat to the Ducks, while the Nittany Lions appear to be the dark horse.

Oregon has picked up multiple predictions from Rivals for Mencl to wind up in Eugene, and he would provide a massive boost to the Ducks’ class, which currently ranks No. 9 in the nation.

The 6-foot-3 passer is incredibly accurate downfield and a capable runner as well. He completed more than 70% of his passes for 3,815 yards and 33 touchdowns against five interceptions in his junior season, leading Chandler to a state title berth. He also rushed for 741 yards and an additional 17 touchdowns.

Oregon is never short on quarterback talent, with Dylan Raiola, Brock Thomas and Akili Smith Jr. serving as depth this season, and Mencl could potentially challenge that group in a battle for the starting role next season, should Dante Moore depart for the NFL.

After the Ducks missed out on four-star quarterback Jake Nawrot, Oregon has been all-in on Mencl and could make a statement in this recruiting cycle by snagging the nation’s top quarterback and keeping him out west.
