Oregon picked up a huge commitment in the 2027 recruiting class on Friday when five-star wide receiver Xavier Sabb announced his pledge to the Ducks, choosing Dan Lanning’s program over UCLA, LSU, and Tennessee. Sabb revealed his decision live on the Rivals YouTube after completing official visits to Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Tennessee and UCLA this spring, with the Ducks earning the final visit before securing his commitment.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound standout from Glassboro High School in New Jersey is regarded as one of the nation’s premier prospects. ESPN ranks him as the No. 20 overall recruit and the No. 5 wide receiver in the 2027 class, while the Rivals Industry Ranking places him No. 32 overall and No. 5 at his position. On3 also lists him as the No. 32 overall prospect, the No. 5 receiver and the No. 2 player in New Jersey.
Sabb’s commitment gives Oregon its third pledge in as many days and continues an impressive recruiting stretch that also included five-star cornerback Hayden Stepp and four-star athlete Tae Walden Jr. The Ducks now hold 24 commitments from prospects across 17 different states, with the class climbing as high as No. 2 nationally in some recruiting rankings while sitting No. 6 in ESPN’s 2027 class rankings entering Friday.
A long-standing relationship with Lanning and wide receivers coach Ross Douglas played a major role in Sabb’s decision. Sabb said he has known Lanning since his freshman year of high school, and that connection grew stronger throughout the recruiting process. Oregon had remained a consistent presence in his recruitment, including visits to Eugene in 2025 and again in June 2026 before receiving the final official visit of the cycle.
Despite family ties to Alabama, Sabb elected to forge his own path. His older brothers, Keon Sabb and Amari Sabb, are both part of the Crimson Tide program, with Keon transferring to Alabama after beginning his college career at Michigan and Amari joining the program as a 2026 recruit.
Sabb arrives in Eugene after an outstanding junior season at Glassboro. Playing both wide receiver and safety, he helped lead the Bulldogs to a second straight state championship while earning New Jersey Gatorade Football Player of the Year honors and another USA TODAY New Jersey All-State selection. He amassed 59 receptions for 897 yards and scored 13 receiving touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 15 tackles with four interceptions, while adding two special teams touchdowns. Over his high school career, Sabb has accumulated 2,348 receiving yards and 44 touchdowns, with 13 career interceptions on defense.
Renowned for his explosive speed, Sabb has produced touchdowns as a receiver, return specialist and running back while also competing in basketball and track and field. He is a 1,000-point basketball scorer and has qualified for the New Balance Nationals in both the 100-meter dash and high jump.
Sabb becomes the Ducks second five-star receiver in the 2027 class, joining Dakota Guerrant. He also joins receiver Malachi Garlington and tight ends Anthony Cartwright and George VanSandt, giving Oregon another big addition to an already loaded group of future pass catchers that could eventually pair with five-star quarterback commit Will Mencl.
