FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas football returned to the practice fields for its 10th spring workout on Tuesday, April 14. Head coach Ryan Silverfield changed up his schedule, flipping practice portions to shake up the day-to-day grind.

The Razorbacks allowed local media members to watch roughly the final hour. They went through a variety of individual drills before closing with special teams and a single team competition.

Here are seven observations from the what we saw at the Hogs’ 10th spring practice.

Both Arkansas football quarterbacks struggled

The media saw one 11-on-11 team drill, and the men under center did not impress.

AJ Hill went 3 for 8 with a dropped interception in the two-minute scenario. He completed short passes to CJ Brown, Ismael Cisse and Sutton Smith, but he could not lead the first-team offense to a touchdown.

KJ Jackson threw an interception to freshman Tay Lockett on his first play with the second-team offense. The interception may have gone for a defensive touchdown in a live-game scenario.

Wide receiver room will be fine without Jalen Brown

Arkansas kicked Brown off the team following a recent arrest, but the Hogs did good work in the transfer portal and retaining key pieces. Chris Marshall, Donovan Faupen, Jamari Hawkins, Antonio Jordan, CJ Brown and Cisse give the Hogs six veteran pieces. There are also freshmen Dequane Prevo and Blair Irvin III waiting to contribute.

Work continues with pulling offensive linemen

There were multiple drills on Tuesday when Arkansas offensive linemen were working on getting out in space for blocks down the field. It looks like the screen game is going to be a big part of the Tim Cramsey offense.

Kyeaure Magloire works with first-team defense

Magloire arrived this offseason from Division II West Georgia with little fanfare, but he was a starting safety on Tuesday. Christian Harrison, a Cincinnati transfer, was the other safety.

Is Magloire’s work with the starters a sign Arkansas hit on some under-the-radar transfer targets? Or does it mean the Hogs missed on the bigger fish they reeled in? The answer will determine Silverfield’s success in Year 1.

Jamonta Waller receives heavy praise as pass rusher

The JACK position worked on rushing the quarterback and Waller was continuously receiving compliments from outside linebackers assistant coach Jake Jiannoni. The Auburn transfer showed good explosion coming off the ball and has unique bend that should let him get around offensive tackles.

All of the JACK linebackers will play this season, though, including Charlie Collins and Steven Soles Jr.

Young defensive tackles get one-on-one work

True freshmen Danny Beale and Anthony Kennedy Jr. spent a good portion of the open practice working with defensive line coach Landius Wilkerson. Redshirt freshman Reginald Vaughn and redshirt sophomore Carlon Jones were also involved.

We’ve said it before, but Beale’s body looks like he’s ready to play in the SEC right now.

Sutton Smith in the pass game

Hill had a completion to Smith and gave the former Memphis running back another passing target later in the drive. There was a hitch route and an angle route involved. Neither target came off a screen, and it looks like the coaching staff is eager to find different ways to get the ball in Smith’s hands.
