The 2025 college football season has one game remaining before it concludes. Other teams are working to adjust their rosters for the next season.
One of the most valuable resources for teams looking to enhance their rosters is the transfer portal. Since its opening on January 2nd, thousands of players have entered the portal. Among them is Justice Haynes, a former star running back for the Michigan Wolverines.
Haynes rushed for 857 yards and scored 10 touchdowns during the past season at Michigan, despite only playing in seven games due to an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He has since entered the transfer portal and signed with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Haynes signed with the Yellow Jackets earlier on Wednesday. His former quarterback at Michigan, Bryce Underwood, reacted to the news by sharing the announcement of Haynes’ signing with Georgia Tech on his Instagram story, captioning it with “22!” Haynes’ jersey number at Michigan.
Haynes’ addition gives Georgia Tech an immediate answer at running back and reinforces Brent Key’s emphasis on controlling the line of scrimmage and the ground game. With multiple contributors departing the position, Haynes is expected to compete for a featured role as soon as he arrives in Atlanta.
The move also highlights how interconnected the portal era has become, with former teammates like Underwood publicly acknowledging roster moves across the country. That visibility reflects both player relationships and the growing spotlight surrounding transfer decisions.
As Georgia Tech turns its attention toward spring practice, Haynes’ health and usage will be closely monitored. If he fully recovers, he could become a centerpiece of the Yellow Jackets’ offense heading into the 2026 season.
