BATON ROUGE – After hammering the skill positions early in this transfer portal window, new LSU football coach Lane Kiffin and his staff are turning their attention to the lines of scrimmage.

It’s been a few days but LSU landed another offensive line transfer Thursday night. Nicholls State freshman transfer Ja’Mard Jones Jr. announced his pledge to the Tigers via his Instagram page.

Jones becomes the fourth OL transfer for Kiffin and his offensive staff since the portal opened, joining North Carolina State’s Ja’Quan Sprinkle, Kentucky’s Darrin Strey and Tennessee’s William Satterwhite.

During his freshman season with the Colonels, Jones appeared in six games and did not allow a sack. His has three years of eligibility left.

Why Ja’Mard Jones Jr. picked LSU out of transfer portal

Jones is a New Orleans native, played his high school ball at Archbishop Rummel and this opportunity is likely a childhood dream fulfilled for the Louisiana native.

The 6-4, 295 pounder is also betting on himself on the chance to play college football at the highest level, taking the step up from FCS to the SEC.

How Ja’Mard Jones Jr. will fit LSU football’s roster

Jones is an interior offensive line and LSU needs guards in a bad way right now. Only Satterwhite has experience playing the interior in college of the three other linemen Kiffin has added out of the portal.

Not only does Jones get the chance to play SEC football at LSU but he has a real opportunity to come in and earning a contributing role for the Tigers in 2026.
