Valor Christian is looking very strong, and their cross-sectional matchup against Mater Dei this weekend will be one of the biggest games in the country. Cherry Creek will take on Ralston Valley in a rematch of last year’s State Championship Game. Grandview had arguably the most exciting win of the weekend, rallying in the 4th to take down Legend.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Colorado high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Aug. 30.

1. Cherry Creek (1-0)

The Bruins had their bye over the weekend and will take on Ralston Valley on September 4 in a rematch of last year’s State Championship Game.

2. Valor Christian (2-0)

It was the Titus Huard to Jackson Coleman show once again as the Eagles rolled over Las Vegas (Nev.) Faith Lutheran, one of the top 10 teams in the state, 46-9. Huard was 16-24 for 296 yards and three touchdowns while Coleman caught seven passes for 194 yards and all three touchdowns. Roger Garey added 92 yards and two touchdowns on the ground, and the defense was stout all night long with 10 tackles for loss and two interceptions. This Friday, the Eagles hit the road to play perennial national power Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. A potential fun game-within-the-game matchup to watch is Mater Dei corner and USC commit Danny Lang against Coleman, a Notre Dame commit.

3. Ralston Valley (1-0)

The Mustangs opened their season in impressive fashion, pitching a 31-0 shutout against Castle View. Junior wideout Phoenix Tomsick, who was the state 200m champion last year, had several big plays in the game, including an 85-yard touchdown where he took a short hitch and outran the defense. Wyoming commit Levi Rillos excelled on both sides of the ball with an interception and a touchdown run. The Mustangs will play Cherry Creek this weekend, the No. 1 rated team in the state in a rematch of last year’s State Championship Game.

4. Grandview (2-0)

In a game matching up a pair of top-10-ranked teams, the Wolves rallied to knock off Legend 28-24. Grandview was comfortably ahead at halftime 21-3, before Legend ripped off 21 straight points in the 3rd quarter to take a 24-21 lead in to the 4th. Grandview junior quarterback Lander Wise connected with Blake Richmeier from 33 yards out for the only score of the 4th quarter and the eventual game-winner. Wise finished the night 16-25 for 211 yards and three touchdowns while Richmeier had six catches for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Wolves will take on Fountain-Fort Carson on Friday.

5. Mountain Vista (1-1)

The Golden Eagles knocked off Arapahoe in a shootout 43-39. Colorado State quarterback commit Marquise Reese had a big night, completing 28-of-39 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 95 yards and the go-ahead touchdown from 11 yards out late in the 4th quarter. Brooklyn Bailey was his favorite target, hauling in 11 passes for 128 yards. The Golden Eagles will have a bye this weekend before hosting Montrose on September 18.

6. Eaglecrest (2-0)

The Raptors moved up four spots after their 21-6 win over Regis Jesuit on Friday. Wide receiver JayAnthony Green had seven catches for 108 yards and a touchdown, and running back Clyde Surrell added a late 4th quarter touchdown to seal the deal. The Raptors will play on the road against Gonzaga Prep on Friday.

7. Montrose (1-0)

The Red Hawks had a bye over the weekend and will play Palisade on Friday.

8. Fairview (1-0)

The Knights opened their season in impressive fashion, with a dominant 45-6 win over Westminster. Quarterback Ki Ellison put on a show, completing 15-of-24 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 77 yards and one more score. Cashin Fejer was his primary target, catching five passes for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Knights will play on the road against ThunderRidge on Thursday.

9. Palmer Ridge (2-0)

The Bears moved to 2-0 with a solid win over La Cueva, the No. 4-ranked team in New Mexico, 29-10. Running back Micah Nocita was the star of the game, rushing for 180 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Knox Tinlin threw for 120 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 20 yards on the ground and a score. The Bears will host Mesa Ridge on Friday.

10. Legend (0-1)

In one of the most exciting games of the weekend, Legend lost a tough one to No. 4-ranked Grandview 28-24. There were a ton of twists and turns in this one, with Grandview holding a 21-3 lead at halftime before Legend dominated the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Wolves 21-0 to take a 24-21 lead into the final frame. Grandview was able to make one more play and scored the lone touchdown in the 4th to get the win. Quarterback Kellen Mauck threw for 121 yards and a touchdown, and Freddie Burke had the touchdown catch for the Titans. Next up for Legend is a home game against Chaparral on Friday.
