Pat McAfee Takes Firm Stand Amid ESPN-YouTube TV Standoff

The blackout of all Disney’s networks — including ABC, ESPN, ESPN 2, SEC Network, among others — on YouTube TV has now reached over a week. The previous deal between Disney and Google, which is YouTube TV’s parent company, expired at the end of the day on Oct. 30, leaving users of the streaming platform without Disney’s catalog since then.

Sports fans have been beside themselves since this blackout began, calling out both media behemoths for not finalizing a deal. Their frustrations are warranted, given they have missed out on over seven days of sports coverage, including a full weekend slate of games and shows.

On Saturday, YouTube TV users were unable to watch big-time college football matchups like the Georgia Bulldogs taking on the Florida Gators, the Vanderbilt Commodores visiting the Texas Longhorns, and the Cincinnati Bearcats facing the Utah Utes. Fans were also unable to watch “Monday Night Football” between the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys.

Before the college football slate took place, “College GameDay” aired on ESPN, as it does each week, but YouTube TV users weren’t able to tune into that either.

Analyst Pat McAfee took matters into his own hands, as he streamed the entire three-hour broadcast on his X account, garnering 1.18 million unique viewers.

Since streaming Week 10’s edition of “College GameDay,” McAfee has not been shy about speaking out about the situation and where things stand between Disney and Google.

This week, McAfee made his feelings on the matter clear while talking with “College GameDay” colleague Kirk Herbstreit on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“There’s a lot going on still behind the scenes,” he said. “We would like the deal to get done, all of us would like the deal to get done. … For the good of ball, we all would like this deal to get done.”

Herbstreit asked if McAfee would be streaming this weekend’s “College GameDay,” to which he said he doesn’t know, but if the deal gets done, there would be no reason for him to do that.

McAfee, Herbstreit and the rest of the “GameDay” crew will be in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday ahead of the matchup between the No. 7 BYU Cougars and No. 8 Texas Tech Red Raiders. “College GameDay” begins at 9 a.m. ET Saturday.
