One of the all-time greats to wear a Penn State football uniform is officially getting his spot among the greatest players to play college football. Former Penn State running back Ki-Jana Carter was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame this week, where he will join his former teammate Kerry Collins, as a member of the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2026. Carter will officially be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on December 8, 2026 at the annual National Football Foundation awards dinner in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"To be named a College Football Hall of Famer is truly humbling," Carter said in a released statement. "Penn State shaped me as a player and as a man, and I share this recognition with my coaches, teammates, and everyone who believed in me along the way. I was fortunate to be part of a special program, surrounded by great teammates who pushed me every day. This honor belongs to all of us who wore the uniform with pride. I am forever grateful to Penn State for the opportunity and the memories that will last a lifetime."
New head coach Matt Campbell is well aware of the impact and legacy Carter left behind in Happy Valley as well.
“When you talk about the history of Penn State Football, Ki-Jana Carter stands out as one of the most dynamic players ever to wear the uniform,” Campbell said in a released statement. “His competitiveness and pride in representing Penn State defined who he was as a player. The College Football Hall of Fame recognition is well deserved, and we’re proud to celebrate Ki-Jana’s place among the greats.”
If you know Penn State football, you know Ki-Jana. That man was different. He made defenders look lost every Saturday. That 1994 team? Unstoppable. Carter was the engine. The dude opened the Rose Bowl with an 83-yard touchdown on the FIRST play. You can't write that up—it’s pure greatness.
He racked up over 1,500 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns that season alone. But it wasn’t just the numbers. It was the way he moved—power, speed, balance. He made it look easy.
Carter wasn’t just a one-season wonder. He left Penn State with 34 touchdowns, averaged 7.2 yards a carry, and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft. He ran through the Big Ten like it was nothing. Defenders didn’t want that smoke.
He was a consensus All-American, a walking highlight reel, and the face of one of the best offenses college football has ever seen.
This isn't just a feel-good moment—it’s long overdue. Carter deserved this a long time ago. Now, he’s getting his name locked in with the greatest to ever do it. He repped Penn State with pride, and now the whole world gets to see his name where it belongs—in the Hall of Fame.
Ki-Jana Carter helped put Penn State on the map in a major way. If you grew up watching him, you know how much this means. And if you didn’t? Go run the tape. What he did in college still holds up today.
This one’s for every Nittany Lion who remembers that 1994 squad and for every kid who grew up pretending to be No. 32 in the backyard.
Congrats, Ki-Jana. You earned every bit of this.
