The lopsided nature of the series won’t matter much to this year’s Indiana team. While the Hoosiers have never won at Beaver Stadium, this is a group that pulled out a last-minute win over Iowa at Kinnick Stadium and ended Oregon’s 18-win streak at Autzen Stadium.
Penn State has too much talent on its roster to get pushed around as badly as some of IU’s recent opponents, but having to start a freshman at quarterback puts the Nittany Lions at a real disadvantage, and that’s not meant as a slight against Ethan Grunkemeyer.
The former 2024 top quarterback prospect just doesn’t have the kind of experience — he’s only played meaningful snaps in two games — to handle all the simulated pressures and stunts up front that Indiana defensive coordinator Bryant Haines will throw his way.
Penn State has leaned on its talented backfield in recent weeks, but its recent losses to Iowa and Ohio State highlight the limitations of a one-dimensional offensive game plan. Since allowing those two long touchdown runs in the season-opener to Old Dominion, the Hoosiers’ run defense hasn’t shown any cracks.
Indiana fans shouldn’t expect any to suddenly form on Saturday.
