Big Sky pulls away late for football quarterfinal win over C.M. Russell High

MISSOULA – The Missoula Big Sky football team scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away and knock off C.M. Russell High 32-13 in the Class AA state quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 7, at Missoula County Stadium.

The Eagles (8-2) advance to a state semifinal contest at Billings West on Nov. 14 at Daylis Stadium, while the Rustlers season ends at 6-5.

Big Sky started off with a 13-0 lead as tailback Brady Williams found pay dirt in the first quarter and quarterback Eli Kasberg ran one in from 5 yards out early in the second, according to 406 MT Sports.

C.M. Russell High offensive lineman Riley Melone watches a Rustlers' defensive series from the sidelines in a playoff game against Butte High on Oct. 31 at Memorial Stadium.

The Rustlers trailed 20-7 at the half but cut it to a one-score game on their first possession of the third with Kane Mahlum hitting a big run to help set up a 10-yard receiving touchdown for Ben Cunningham from Caleb Taylor.

The Eagles picked up the necessary cushion late as Tristan Miller hauled in a 35-yard score from Kasberg midway through the fourth, and Williams added another on the ground after a CMR turnover.

Full stats were not immediately available late Friday night.
