Oklahoma Sooners finish 2025 top 20 in US LBM Coaches Poll

The Oklahoma Sooners finished the 2025 college football season at No. 10 in the final US LBM Coaches Poll. The AP Poll dropped Oklahoma to No. 13. Despite the Sooners‘ disappointing loss to Alabama in the College Football Playoff, they proved throughout the course of the season that they were one of the 10 best teams in the nation.
Now, Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners look to build on their success in 2025 by replicating what Indiana did. Go from first-round playoff exit to national champions.
Indiana completed the season undefeated with their win over Miami, posting the first 16-0 season in the modern era. They claimed the top spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25. They’re followed by Miami, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Georgia, rounding out the top five.
In addition to Ole Miss and Georgia, the SEC claimed five spots in the top 10 and seven of the top 13 spots. Texas A&M came in at No. 8, followed by Alabama at No. 9, and Oklahoma at No. 10. Texas finished the season at No. 13 and Vanderbilt ended the year at No. 15.
The Oklahoma Sooners were one of 14 teams to start the season unranked and finish in the top 25, and the only team that started the year unranked to finish in the top 10.
That speaks to the remarkable coaching job Brent Venables and his staff accomplished, bouncing back from what was a disappointing 2024 season. But they have their eyes set on a bigger prize.
Oklahoma general manager Jim Nagy and his front office staff have been active in the transfer portal, adding difference-makers on both sides of the ball. He significantly upgraded the talent on offense, especially at wide receiver.
If the Sooners can take a step offensively, find a consistent running game, and more explosives in the passing game, they’ll be a force again in 2026 with John Mateer under center and a defense that should be among the best in the SEC once again.
