Colorado fans and media react to Julian Lewis' first start and loss to West Virginia

Colorado football dropped its third straight game Saturday against West Virginia, but showed fight and battled in the eventual 29-22 defeat.
True freshman quarterback Julian Lewis shined in his first start, throwing for 299 yards and two touchdowns. His day included several highlight throws and gave Buff Nation a reason to be optimistic about the future despite the loss knocking the program out of bowl contention.
Colorado is likely to come away with the win if starting offensive tackles Jordan Seaton and Larry Johnson are healthy. Without them, the offensive line was overmatched, giving up 15 tackles for loss and seven sacks. The negative plays, which also included six penalties, put Colorado behind the sticks too many times. While the tight loss stings, it was one with many silver linings, most notably Julian Lewis.
Buffs fans were still disappointed with the loss, but the overall vibe around the program seems a lot better this week than it did after back-to-back blowout losses.
Here are the best reactions from Colorado's narrow road loss to West Virginia:
This is very true
Julian Lewis is the answer at QB for the CU Buffs. That’s the (very) good news.
The bad news is they burned time and wasted a season on two other QBs who were clearly not the answer.

It was rough at first, but Julian Lewis settled in
Oh…I got a great idea.
Let’s ask our freshman QB in his first start on the road in a tough environment to throw the ball on his first three plays.
NOT a great idea! #Football101— Chad Brown (@chadbrown94) November 8, 2025
Another questionable time management decision from Coach Prime
Timeout here? Deion just put the nail in his own coffin.

Not the season Buff Nation was hoping for
Colorado (3-7) have been eliminated from bowl contention after falling to West Virginia 29-22

The fight was there, as was the quarterback
Impressed by the bounce back from the Buffs today. Coming back after the past two games isn’t an easy thing. Played with energy and purpose. And….this JuJu kid has a very nice skill set. Good pocket feel. Throws a very catchable ball. Keep building. Keep growing. #GoBuffs

Who agrees with this? I think so
Not over yet, but Colorado probably wins this game with a healthy Jordan Seaton and four quarters of Tawfiq Byard

That JuJu hair pull looked so painful
Might be time for a haircut after that on Juju…. Oof that looked painful.

Penalties still a major problem
One of the least disciplined football teams imaginable

Tawfiq Byard was a difference maker in the second half
Tawfiq Byard is unreal.
Instant impact when he got back in the game.

Unfortunately, I was having the same flashbacks
The Shedeur Sanders spirit has returned in Colorado.
The only problem is the spirit of Shedeur's offensive line is back too.

I thought the defense played well
I’m only watching offense for the rest of the season ngl 😂 defense makes my head itch

Hot take…very much so, but he played well today
Omarion Miller > Jeremiah Smith

Not a good special teams play
Dudes literally pointed out the free rusher and still let him block the punt dawg🤣

A questionable decision to begin the game
Running a play out of shotgun on 4th-and-1 in your own territory is certainly a choice lmao

Julian Lewis is a future leader
Shoutout Juju Lewis though. True freshman showed more awareness and poise than we’ve seen from this team at all positions and all levels this entire season.
