Darian Mensah: .2M QB Expected to be Top-10 Player in 2026 After Joining Miami

Quarterback movement reshaped the early outlook for the 2026 college football season, particularly among players positioned to rise in preseason rankings after transferring from one college to another.

ESPN analysts put together a top-100 players list from the 2025 season, and later identified which names could make a significant jump next season, going all the way up to make the top 10 by next January.

Among those ranked relatively low in the initial top 100 was former Duke and new Miami Hurricanes quarterback Darian Mensah, coming off one of the most productive seasons in the country.

Mensah threw for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns during the 2025 season, finishing among the national leaders in both categories while guiding Duke to its first outright ACC championship since 1962.

ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura identified the former Duke signal caller as a player who could realistically break into the top 10 entering 2026.

“Darian Mensah’s 3,973 yards ranked second in FBS, and he led Duke to the ACC title,” Bonagura wrote. “There are questions about where he’ll be next year, but the expectation is that he could be a Heisman candidate in the right situation. So, a top-10 spot feels reasonable.”

With Mensah landing in Miami on Tuesday, it’s fair to say there are no doubts anymore about his new situation being a “right” one, as Bonagura wondered.

Mensah’s efficiency and consistency earned him a place in the Second-Team All-ACC and made him one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the transfer portal after he entered it on the verge of its closing, leading to a legal dispute with Duke.

Shortly after the resolution of Mensah’s legal dispute with the Blue Devils, which cleared the way for his transfer, the quarterback committed to Miami, where he will replace Carson Beck and step into an offense built to contend at the national level.

Miami is coming off losing the College Football Playoff title game to Indiana, further amplifying Mensah’s already-high exposure.

The quarterback boasts a NIL valuation of around $2.2 million, reflecting both his on-field production and marketability, and that should only grow in Miami.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Mensah enters the 2026 season as one of the most impactful players to watch nationally with Miami trying to avenge the loss to Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers next year.
