The Senior Bowl is able to give any prospect a clean slate during the pre-draft cycle. For Nick Singleton, it may mean more than that as he tries to boost his draft stock.
Singleton is another player from the Nittany Lions' 2025 team who didn't live up to the standards that were set before the season and even by his 2024 performance. Therefore, ahead of the draft, he is in somewhat of a precarious position in terms of his draft position. This week at the Senior Bowl however, can change his fortunes just as quickly.
According to ESPN, Singleton is still the No. 2 running back on the so-called Big Board, only behind Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love. Still, there are many varying opinions as to whether or not that ranking is too high for Singleton, considering his massive regression this past season.
After just coming up short in the CFP semifinal against Notre Dame in 2024, it was expected that Singleton would be one of the many leaders of one of college football's best offenses in 2025. However, that wasn't the case, as the team started out 3-3 and saw former head coach James Franklin get fired.
The worst part was that Singleton did not look like the running back he was over his first three college seasons, where he racked up over 2,900 yards on the ground. He only had 549 yards on 123 carries. In fact, after Franklin's firing, interim head coach Terry Smith decided to rely on the hot hand of Kaytron Allen more, which saw Allen get 140 carries to Singleton's 53 over the last six games.
Still, there were moments that made people remember why Nick Singleton was one of college football's most dynamic running backs and why people were so high on him going into the draft. A 59 yard run against the eventual champion Indiana Hoosiers. A 50 yard catch and run against Nebraska. Breaking the all time Penn State touchdowns record against Rutgers in his final ever game.
So far at the Senior Bowl, everything seems to be going to plan for Singleton as he has displayed the traits that have made him such an intriguing candidate. Whether or not it will be enough to convince teams of his abilities throughout the draft process remains to be seen.
