Georgia Bulldogs Lead in Recruitment for Top Tight End Brock Williams

The Georgia Bulldogs, led by head coach Kirby Smart, made a return to the College Football Playoff in 2025 after winning the SEC championship for the second consecutive year. However, for the second straight year, they were eliminated in their first playoff game.

Smart is focused on making essential improvements to his roster this year and in the future, aiming to restore the Bulldogs to their national championship standard, as seen in 2021 and 2022. This process begins with recruiting.

The Bulldogs consistently rank among the top teams in recruiting. Currently, they are ranked No. 5 for 2027. However, this position may change, as Rivals’ Greg Smith gives Coach Smart a slight edge in the competition to secure one of the nation’s top prospects.

Brock Williams, a tight end from Libertyville, Illinois, is recognized as a top 50 prospect and is ranked as the second-best tight end in his class. He has received offers from several prominent schools, including the Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines, among others.

Smith reports that three programs stand out the most for Williams. He has visited Georgia five times, Ohio State four times, and Texas for his second visit in January.

According to Smith, various leaders have emerged at different stages of Williams’ recruitment. Early on and leading into this season, Georgia was in a strong position. However, Ohio State gained momentum after he made two visits to Columbus during the season. Texas, once considered a dark horse, has rapidly closed the gap in the recruitment race.

The team he favors slightly is Georgia. After a multi-day visit last weekend, his sources indicate that Williams feels more comfortable than ever in Athens.

Georgia’s position with Williams reflects the Bulldogs’ continued ability to recruit elite tight end talent under Smart, even after back-to-back early playoff exits. With Georgia aiming to reestablish its national championship dominance, securing high-upside weapons at premium positions remains a priority, especially in an evolving offensive landscape that increasingly values versatile tight ends.

The ripple effects of Williams potentially choosing Georgia would reinforce the Bulldogs’ reputation as a destination for NFL-caliber development at the position, something that resonates with recruits and evaluators alike.

Looking ahead, Williams’ recruitment is expected to stretch deeper into the 2027 cycle, with official visits likely playing a decisive role. Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas will all push hard heading into the summer, but for now, the Bulldogs appear to have positioned themselves best as Williams continues evaluating where he fits long-term, both on the field and beyond it.
