While the Texas Longhorns were out of action this weekend, they stayed busy on the recruiting front. On Friday, Steve Sarkisian and his staff offered three-star defensive back Josiah Vilmael. The Texas native has drawn interest from schools nationwide and has done enough to impress the Longhorns.
As the Longhorns look to add Vilmael to their 2026 class, they will face competition. The Fort Bend Travis High star has also received interest from Kansas State, Houston, Arizona, Baylor, and Arizona State. That list should continue to grow the longer his recruitment stays open.

Currently, Vilmael is ranked as the 150th best cornerback in his class by 247Sports. They also rank him as the 226th best player from Texas. While he still has some room to grow, Vilmael has the potential to be a solid player. In the right system, he could take his game to another level, which the Longhorns have had a lot of success with in the secondary.
If Vilmael does end up committing to Texas, he would be part of a talented 2026 class. That includes five-star recruits Dia Bell, Tyler Atkinson, and Jermaine Bishop. They will get some help from a group of talented four-star recruits that consists of Richard Wesley, Derek Cooper, Vodney Cleveland, James Johnson, and Samari Jackson. The Longhorns' 2026 class is ranked as the ninth-best in the nation by 247Sports.

With no commitment date set, the Longhorns will have to be patient as Vilmael narrows down his options. Texas is hoping it ends with him deciding that Austin is the best place to start his college career. For a program that has done a really good job recruiting, Vilmael could be one of the final pieces to a talented group.
