UL football facing possible fallout from postgame scuffle vs Texas State in Week 11

Following Louisiana football’s 42-39 home victory over Texas State in Week 11 of the college football season, a postgame scuffle broke out between players from both teams.

The chirping between the two Sun Belt Conference rivals was boiling up in the Ragin’ Cajuns final few offensive snaps, in which they were lined up in the victory formation. Once the clock expired, and players and coaches went to shake hands, a fight broke out on the field and then a separate altercation spilled over into the tunnel of Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium.

On Monday, Nov. 11, at media availability with UL football head coach Michael Desormeaux, he gave this as the latest update on the weekend scuffle:

“With the way the game ended last week, we’re going to be dealing with some fallout from that I’m sure from the league. So we’re going to kind of have to wait and see how that goes, which is certainly a distraction that we don’t need, can’t afford and shouldn’t have. But you know I’m expecting to have deal with that as well.”

Louisianas Ragin Cajuns take on Texas State Football. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.

Texas State released this official statement from the university’s president Dr. Kelly Damphousse its X account following the incident:

The SBC has not yet commented on the postgame scuffle or has handed out any official punishments for either team as of yet.

“We’re trying to sort through, trying to appeal some of them but there’s some of them that I just think it’s really hard,” Desormeaux said. “I mean you get attacked and I don’t know how you’re supposed to respond. I don’t understand how this wasn’t cleared up before once it broke the first time I don’t understand how we didn’t get people off the field.

“If you’re walking down the street and someone punches you in the jaw, I would imagine you probably want to fight back. So we’re going to deal with it. We’re going to do the best we can to save as many guys as we can.”

The Cajuns currently have an open week with their next game being on the road at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 20 vs. Arkansas State. Texas State plays in Week 12 on Nov. 15 at Southern Mississippi.
