Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry added another layer of drama to the rivalry between the LSU Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels on Wednesday.

The state figurehead called out Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter following reports that LSU defender Princewill Umanmielen was served with court papers outside the Tigers’ team facility in Baton Rouge. This is related to Ole Miss filing a breach of contract lawsuit against Umanmielen and LSU offensive lineman Devin Harper in July.

"The process server found Princewill in the LSU Football Ops parking lot," Landry confirmed with a post on X. "Keith Carter could have saved Ole Miss some money and waited until Saturday. He’ll be easy to find in the Ole Miss backfield often!"

Ole Miss alleges roughly $1 million in unpaid buyouts are owed as part of the terms of their respective NIL contracts. It's all part of the ongoing saga with former Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin leaving for LSU back in January. The timing of the legal escalation by Ole Miss comes days before Kiffin’s much-anticipated return to Oxford.

Landry's involvement with LSU athletics has been notable going back to last year. Many have speculated if he's operating as LSU's shell athletic director after Brian Kelly was fired last year. He stated that then athletic director Scott Woodward would not choose the next coach. Woodward resigned days later with Verge Ausberry taking over.

No. 7 LSU (2-0) takes on eighth-ranked Ole Miss (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday night at Vaught-Heminghway Stadium. Both teams are preparing for enhanced security measures for Kiffin's return. The game will be nationally televised on ABC.
