When it comes to Florida State's 2027 recruiting class, blue-chip safety Mekhi Williams stands out among the players who are committed. He's currently their top-ranked prospect of the class.
Despite pledging to FSU a year ago, schools have continued to try and steal Williams away. However, Williams was in Tallahassee for Florida State's Legacy Weekend, and he doubled down on his commitment to the Seminoles.
"The atmosphere, it's always something special to me. Every time I come back, I always fall more in love with it. It's just like home to me. I'm like 110% committed to Florida State," Williams told Noles247.
During this weekend, former players and current recruits come together to chop it up about the garnet and gold, as well as other aspects of life. There were several former Seminoles on campus over the weekend, but one in particular stood out to Williams.
It was Jordan Travis, who was the quarterback on FSU's 2023 team before suffering a season-ending leg injury. According to Williams, Travis spoke on taking care of mental health issues and having a separate plan outside of football.
The 2026 season is a huge one for head coach Mike Norvell. After just seven wins over the last two years, he's under a lot of scrutiny at the moment. With that said, Williams took to heart what Norvell said over the weekend.
"Mike Norvell, his message always something special to me. Everything he tells me has always been the same thing. It hasn't been nothing fake," Williams said. "All of the coaches have been showing the same love. It's just been the same intentions with them. I love the coaches."
As mentioned earlier, programs have still been attempting to flip Williams ever since he committed to Florida State, with in-state rival Miami and Wisconsin being at the forefront. The Lennard High School star came into this trip with official visits scheduled to both schools in June after his official visit with FSU.
Williams hasn't made a decision on if he'll shut down his recruitment yet, but it sure seems like it's not far away at this point.
"No sir. As of right now, Florida State changed my mind with everything so I might decide to shut everything down soon," said Williams.
Williams is the nation's No. 180 player and the No. 16 safety per the 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-2.5, 160-pounder is also the No. 20 prospect in the state of Florida.
