The recruiting gods giveth, and the recruiting gods taketh away.
2027 three-star offensive lineman Tristan Dare announced his decommitment from the Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday afternoon.
The Southlake, Texas native had been committed since last August, choosing the Wolverines over Ohio State, Penn State and Oklahoma at the time. Even after the old coaching staff that recruiting him were let go, Dare initially sounded like he wanted to stay committed.
“(Head coach Kyle Whittingham) has the reputation from Utah of always having solid programs. The opportunity to come over to Michigan is a home-run hire this late in the cycle,” Dare said. “You heard it in the press conference last week … He wants a disciplined team, but a tough team. That’s something I wanna see if I wanna be a part of.
“I haven’t thought about schools outside of Michigan,” he said.
Well, clearly something has changed. Perhaps he sat on it and decided he wanted to explore his other options, or perhaps new offensive line coach Jim Harding just wanted to go in another direction on the recruiting trail along the interior of the offensive line.
Regardless, we wish Dare nothing but the best as he looks for his future college football team.
Michigan is now left with five remaining commitments in the class — four-star edge rusher Recarder Kitchen, four-star safety Darrell Mattison, four-star offensive lineman Sidney Rouleau, three-star offensive lineman Louis Esposito and three-star safety Maxwell Miles.
