East Henderson has hired its next football coach.
The Eagles hired Asheville High assistant coach Kobey Rudisill, 29, on April 8.
"We're going to build a program to develop a person first, then player second," Rudisill said in his introductory press conference. "Everything we do will be rooted in growth, accountability, discipline and doing things the right way, on the field, in the community, in the classroom."
He replaces Colton Brackett, who coached East Henderson over the past three seasons and compiled a 3-27 overall record.
Rudisill was the Cougars' special teams coordinator and linebackers coach the past three seasons. Before that, he was the defensive coordinator at Booker T Washington in Houston.
One of the biggest lessons he learned at Booker T Washington and at Asheville High under coach Cort Radford was to always be himself.
"Once kids know that you care about them and that you'll do anything for them, they'll run through a brick wall," Rudisill said.
He is a Hendersonville graduate who played linebacker from 2011 to 2015. In his senior season, Rudisill made 78 total tackles with seven for a loss and three sacks while guiding the Bearcats to a 7-5 record.
He will be tasked with helping East Henderson end a 16-game losing streak.
Rudisill's first game will be at home against the Bearcats on Aug. 21.
"It's gonna be a little homecoming," Rudisill said. "After that kickoff happens, we're there to win a football game."
