The Penn State football program is hoping to bounce back in 2026 after a disastrous 2025 season that came to a merciful end a few months ago. The 2025 campaign saw the Nittany Lions fire head coach James Franklin midway through the year, and the team has since filled that void by hiring Matt Campbell from Iowa State to be their next head man.

The Nittany Lions are currently looking to add to their future talent pipeline, and on Monday, their efforts in that regard were helped by a big commitment from a coveted tight end prospect.

BREAKING: Four-Star TE Cooper Terwilliger has Committed to Penn State, he tells me for @Rivals,” reported Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports on X, formerly Twitter.
The 6’5 235 TE from Pierre, SD chose the Nittany Lions over Notre Dame.”

Fawcett also noted that “He’s ranked as a Top 10 TE in the 2027 Class (per Rivals Industry).”

It’s certainly a big get for a Penn State football program that has consistently ranked among the top recruiting classes in the country, especially at this position, with several starting tight ends in the NFL today having played their college football for the Nittany Lions.

Meanwhile, in the short term, Campbell is hoping to lead the Penn State program to a bounce back after a dismal 2025 season that saw the team start out hot, lose in a narrow fashion to Oregon, and then have the wheels fall off from there, culminating in a shocking loss to UCLA.

The national champion has resided in the Big Ten for the last three years, and Penn State will hope to add its name to that discussion next season, all while simultaneously building for the future with key commitments like Terwilliger’s.
