USC football has the nation’s top recruiting class joining the team next season.
The Trojans started spring practices on March 3, and offensive coordinator Luke Huard highlighted two freshmen that are already standing out: wide receiver Trent Mosley and quarterback Jonas Williams.
Mosley Could Be A Starter in the Fall
After losing wide receivers Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane, USC will need to fill those starting roles next season. Mosley, who is a four-star recruit out of Santa Margarita Catholic, could earn a starting spot as a freshman.
“Oh my gosh. Trent’s a stud,” Huard said, per The Athletic. “The thing about him, too, is he’s not a one-trick pony. He can do everything. He’s physical, he’s strong, he’s fast. He’s got great ball skills.
“… The thing I’d like to give Trent credit for is not the plays he made in practice but how he prepared himself each day to go in there and execute and know what he’s doing on each play. For a freshman that just got here, that was the most impressive thing — a lack of mental mistakes. You didn’t feel like you were around a guy that just got here, because he was able to execute and line up in different spots.”

Rising sophomore Tanook Hines and North Carolina State rising junior transfer Terrell Anderson are also expected to compete for starting spots at wide receiver.
Williams Will Be Backup to Maiava
Huard praised Williams for his performance so far during spring practices. He said Williams continues to improve with each practice.
“He kept getting better, better and better. Certainly excited about where he’s at and where he’s going to go,” Huard said, per The Athletic.
Quarterback Jayden Maiava is returning to USC for his senior season. He was one of the best quarterback in the nation and led the Big Ten with 3,711 passing yards last season.
Maiava is expected to reclaim his role as the Trojans’ starting quarterback, so a starting role is not in the cards for Williams during his freshman season. But when Maiava leaves the team after next season, the starting quarterback spot will be up for grabs.
