The Nebraska football team will be playing in a new-look Memorial Stadium soon. The school announced its $600 million plan to renovate its longtime stadium in 2026, which it is calling “Big Red Rebuild.”

The Nebraska athletic department will present the plan at its next Board of Regents meeting, where it will go to a vote, according to On3 Sports’ Sean Callahan. An estimated $250 will be funded by “philanthropic support,” with the remaining $350 falling on private bond financing, per ESPN.

“Memorial Stadium is one of the most iconic venues in all of college sports and this project ensures that our stadium is well-positioned for future generations,” said athletic director Troy Dannen, via ESPN. “We have listened intently to Nebraska fans and are building a best-in-class fan experience that will also drive revenue for the University of Nebraska, create exciting new year-round programming for Nebraskans, create new opportunities for our student-athletes, and position Nebraska to compete and lead at the highest level in a rapidly evolving college athletics landscape.”

Nebraska plans to have the renovated Memorial Stadium completed by the start of the 2028 college football season. If approved, construction would begin after the 2026 season, forcing them to temporarily play in a different stadium in 2027.

The plan includes increasing seated capacity to 80,000 and creating a new 360-degree main concourse full of revamped concessions and entertainment. The Cornhuskers expect the improved facility to increase annual revenue by 40 percent.

As of 2025, Nebraska has sold out an NCAA-record 410 consecutive games, per ESPN. Memorial Stadium famously becomes Nebraska’s third-most-populated city during football games.
