What are they saying in Georgia about Texas Football before Saturday?

We are just 48 hours from the Longhorns taking on the Bulldogs with their CFP livelihood on the line. Longhorn fans know exactly what people in the Austin area and beyond are saying about the matchup, but what about the Georgians? I did some snooping to find out how the peach state is feeling heading into this matchup, from Kirby Smart to the general fanbase.

As you can imagine, the closer you get to the Georgia football program, the more reserved they are with their thoughts. Kirby Smart and the Georgia players are not in the business of giving bulletin board material. Smart has never been that type of coach, and he kept that approach this week when asked about the development of Arch Manning this season.

Kirby Smart was never going to allow for his words to be misconstrued, so this does not come as a surprise. There is obviously quite a bit of confidence around the Georgia program, but they will keep that close to the vest. Moving further away from the program, the respect for the Longhorns continues. Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal Constitution releases his picks for all the Georgia based teams, and he is leaning towards the Longhorns to at least keep it close.

Those are the Georgia football head coaches and a major newspaper’s take, but what about the more grass roots outlets? That is where you see some of the confidence grow around this game, including a healthy amount of trash talk. Our friends over at UGA Wire gave their pick for this game, and they are leaning towards the Bulldogs in a defensive battle.

Moving away from the written word and toward major Georgia football podcasts, Brooks Austin or “The Film Guy” is another Georgia outlet to take a peak in on. Austin leans towards the Bulldogs in this matchup, however, understands there is a certain player on the Texas defense that can change the game in a second. Colin Simmons is capable of wrecking this game, but Austin also points out some of the obvious flaws with the Texas defense in recent weeks.

To change the vibe, Locked On Bulldogs Podcast seems to have some brash confidence about the matchup. As the week has developed, the fanbases have begun the customary back and forth online, and Anthony Hill Jr. vs CJ Allen has become a major debate. Locked On Bulldogs made their stance on the matter clear, including an extra tidbit about the signal callers.

Now, neither of those opinions are necessarily wrong, but they do show the confidence Georgia fans have around this matchup. As we work our way up the confidence meter, we might as well tap into the diehard fanbase and see what they have to say. I was able to connect with a UGA Alum and massive football fan, who had a more trash talking approach to the upcoming battle.

I’m fired up to get Texas in between the hedges. We owned them in Austin and the Benz last year. Will be nice to finally put their playoff hopes to rest. – Georgia Alum & Super Fan

This is one of the most anticipated matchups this season and the confidence around the Georgia program is very real. Kirby Smart is going to be more reserved, but the same doesn’t go for the diehard Bulldog fanbase. The confidence is clear, as is some of the growing vitriol between these two fanbases, which always adds something extra to any matchup. It’s impossible to know the outcome of this one right now, but I can promise the Georgia fans will be at full throttle on Saturday night.
