Notre Dame is pushing hard for several top 2027 defensive line targets. That includes a priority player who has a commitment date on the horizon.
Notre Dame football is hoping for some great 2027 recruiting news this week, and if they do, that momentum should continue over the next several weeks. Head coach Marcus Freeman, defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, and the Fighting Irish staff are working tirelessly to put together an elite 2027 group, including on the defensive line.
One of the most important targets on the board is elite Chicago (Ill.) St. Patrick defensive tackle David Folorunsho, a local talent who has clear ties to Notre Dame, considering he is being coached by a former Irish great, Tom Zbikowski. A commitment date is now set for Folorunsho, which makes the next couple of weeks very important. The talented defensive lineman will be announcing his commitment on May 15, picking between the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Michigan, Miami, and Texas Tech.
While the Red Raiders seemingly held some momentum several weeks ago, it appears that this decision will most likely come down to Notre Dame or Miami. It feels like this commitment could go in either direction, but I have been told a final decision has not been made yet. Notre Dame still very much has a chance here, depending on how they close down the stretch.
David Folorunsho’s recruiting background
When Notre Dame first offered Folorunsho, he was considered to be a three-star by both Rivals and 247Sports. He is now considered to be a top-100 overall player by both. On Rivals’ rankings, Folorunsho is currently rated a four-star, the No. 9 overall player, No. 2 defensive lineman, and No. 1 player from the state of Illinois.
As those rankings have risen, so has the list of offers for the Chicago native. Some of his top offers include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Oregon, Michigan, LSU, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Miami, Auburn, Indiana, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas Tech, Louisville, Vanderbilt, Washington, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kansas State, Iowa, UNC, Kentucky, Virginia, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Cal, and Purdue, among others.
At 6-4 and 285 pounds, Folorunsho is an impressive athlete who has been used up and down the line of scrimmage from various alignments for St. Patrick. As a junior, the talented defender recorded 55 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and five sacks. As Folorunsho continues to fill out his frame and develop, he has the potential to become an even more dominant football player and a continued riser in the 2027 recruiting class across all platforms.
Folorunsho projects best inside but also has an intriguing skill set to serve as a big end on early downs. He could bolster a couple of different positions in a prospective defense. The upside is unreal.
