Xavier Maddox signed to play football at Gardner-Webb during a ceremony Wednesday at Soenneker Hall at Owensboro Catholic High School.
Maddox was a star wide receiver for the Aces in the 2025 season, which ended with a tough 33-28 loss to Lexington Christian.
Gardner-Webb is in the OVC-Big South Conference football association in NCAA DI.
“I decided on Gardner-Webb because I wanted to play at the highest competition level that I could, and I feel like that’s where I’ll be most successful in the long run,” Maddox said. “My recruiting started a little late because I had to prove I was able to play my senior year after I got hurt my junior year.”
Maddox made 78 catches for 1,390 yards and 16 touchdowns in his senior season at Catholic.
“The thing I did best my senior year was giving my best every game, and treating every game like it might be my last game,” Maddox said. “Getting hurt my junior year made me realize not to take any of it for granted.”
Catholic coach Jason Morris was glad to see Maddox get the chance at college football.
“I am extremely proud of Xavier,” Morris said. “He has worked tremendously hard to get this opportunity and he has earned everything he is getting. I think Xavier’s best football days are ahead of him and Gardner-Webb is getting a steal. I think they know that also.”
