Missouri football released a statement May 11 on running back Ahmad Hardy, saying one of the country's top running backs is in stable condition after being the victim of a shooting at a concert in Mississippi on the morning of May 10.

Hardy, who was born in Brookhaven, Mississippi, underwent surgery on the same day. His timeline to return to football activities is unknown as he recovers from the shooting, the school's statement said.

"Mizzou football student-athlete Ahmad Hardy was the victim of a shooting at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning and sustained a gunshot wound," the statement read. "Ahmad underwent surgery Sunday in Mississippi and is in stable condition."

To conclude, Missouri wrote: "A timeline for his return to football activities is unknown at this time. Mizzou Athletics will provide more information on his status when it becomes available."

Hardy, who transferred to Missouri for his second season after rushing for 1,351 yards at Louisiana-Monroe, led the SEC in rushing yards in 2025 with 1,649 yards, and 6.4 yards per carry. Cam Cook out of Jacksonville State had 10 more yards than Hardy on 39 more carries, leaving Hardy as the second-most prolific rusher by yardage in the country.
