Nothing official happened Friday for the Oklahoma football team on the recruiting trail, but things are looking up for coach Brent Venables' Class of 2027.
Covered Wagons Recruiting, an On3 and Rivals prediction page, updated its projections to list Branham, Texas, running back Jakoby Dixon as a likely commit to Oklahoma. Dixon, a 5-foot-10 and 200-pound three-star prospect, had long been projected to go to Oregon. That changed Friday. The On3/Rivals site now lists Dixon as 96.7% likely to commit to the Sooners.
Venables and Co. currently have the No. 2-ranked 2027 class in FBS. Twenty-one players have already committed in the class, including 11 who rank as four-stars. Of those four-stars, six rank in the top 100 recruits in the nation, led by Bixby High School offensive lineman Kaeden Perry. Perry is the No. 2 tackle in the country and top-rated player in Oklahoma.
If Dixon were to join the class, he'd be the second running back in the group. Keldrid Ben, a four-star back out of Montgomery, Texas, committed back on Dec. 1, 2025.
Some more running backs on the roster couldn't hurt. The Sooners ranked just 113th in FBS in yards rushing per game last year. Rising sophomore Tory Blaylock led the team with 480 yards while rising junior Xavier Robinson added 421. Those two will be joined by Lloyd Avant, a rising junior who transferred from Colorado State this offseason, to provide Oklahoma with its expected top three on the depth chart in 2026.
