HARTLAND, WI — The pipeline from Hartland Arrowhead to Ann Arbor is officially open again.

In a move that signals the program’s long-term vision under head coach Kyle Whittingham, Michigan Football has officially extended a scholarship offer to class of 2028 tight end Tre Oiler. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound freshman is already making waves nationally, and his recruitment is shaping up to be a classic Big Ten battle with a distinctively "Blue" flavor.

A New Standard at Tight End

While 2028 feels like a lifetime away in the current landscape of the transfer portal and NIL, Oiler is the type of prospect you circle early. Standing at a towering 6-foot-6 before even finishing his freshman year, Oiler possesses the rare combination of frame and fluidity that high-level offensive coordinators crave.

Currently ranked as the No. 1 prospect in Wisconsin and the No. 10 tight end nationally in the 247Sports Composite for his class, Oiler is a matchup nightmare. On tape, he moves like a wide receiver, using long strides to eat up cushion and verticality to high-point the ball over smaller defensive backs. Yet, his 220-pound frame suggests he will eventually develop into the traditional "Y" tight end Michigan has long utilized as a cornerstone of its offense.

The Arrowhead Legacy: Following the Bredesons

For Michigan fans, the name "Arrowhead High School" carries a heavy weight of nostalgia and success. This is the same program that produced two of the most beloved and gritty players in recent Wolverine history: Ben and Max Bredeson.

The parallels are hard to ignore. Ben Bredeson, a former four-year starter and two-time captain on the offensive line, was a foundational piece of the Jim Harbaugh era before heading to the NFL. His younger brother, Max Bredeson, followed a more "blue-collar" path from Arrowhead, arriving as a walk-on quarterback before transforming into an All-Big Ten fullback and a two-time captain himself.

By offering Oiler, Michigan isn't just recruiting a talent; they are leaning into a culture. Arrowhead is known for producing "Michigan-style" players—physical, disciplined, and technically sound. Oiler, who recently transitioned from Brookfield East to Arrowhead, joins a Warhawk program that understands the expectations of the Big Ten.

Building the Whittingham Era

The offer comes at a pivotal time for Michigan. Since taking over for Sherrone Moore in late 2025, Kyle Whittingham has emphasized a "recruiting-first" mentality that targets elite length and regional dominance. Securing a commitment from the top player in Wisconsin—especially a tight end—would be a major statement in a territory typically dominated by the Badgers.

The competition will be fierce. Oiler already holds offers from Notre DameIowaFlorida, and Michigan State, among others. His recent visits to East Lansing and South Bend indicate he is doing his due diligence, but the historical success of Wisconsin natives in Ann Arbor remains a powerful recruiting tool for the Wolverines.

Looking Ahead

As Oiler enters his sophomore season, the spotlight will only brighten. He finished his freshman campaign with 19 receptions and 4 touchdowns while averaging a staggering 20 yards per catch—numbers that verify his "massive WR" playing style.

If Oiler continues his current trajectory, he could follow in the footsteps of the Bredeson brothers, trading the red and blue of Arrowhead for the Maize and Blue of Michigan. For Whittingham and his staff, the goal is clear: keep the Arrowhead pipeline flowing and ensure the next great Big Ten tight end calls the Big House home.
