UNC (4-5, 2-3 ACC) puts its winning streak on the line Saturday, when it makes the short trip out west on I-40 to Winston-Salem, for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. North Carolina knows a thing or two about beating Wake (6-3, 3-3 ACC), winning each of the past four matchups, but the latter is playing better football in 2025.
The Tar Heels clinched bowl eligibility almost a year ago Saturday, beating the Deacs 31-24. 2024’s matchup was a battle of running back: Omarion Hampton compiled 244 rushing yards and a score, while Demond Claiborne collected 95 yards and two scores.
This year, UNC has a deep running back room led by freshman Demon June, who exploded for a career-best game at Syracuse. June barely touched the football against Stanford (3-7, 2-5 ACC), but Gio Lopez led a steadily-improving passing attack.
North Carolina and Wake will battle in a clash of defensive-minded teams Saturday. The Tar Heels are coming off a season-best, 9-sack performance against the Cardinal, while the Deacs kept Virginia (8-2, 5-1 ACC) out of the end zone in last weekend’s upset victory.
